Island 3 - The last of the Bohemians!

So,you enjoyed the island? Or you went green with envy because you missed out? Well it's on in June! It's invitation only again, but this time Aaron is the chief organizer. If you don't know what the island is all about, then have a read of the "basics" section. Come live like Gauguin, The Duke of Windsor, or Robinson Crusoe. Have more fun on the island than Napoleon did on Elba, with more intelligent company than on Gilligan's Island. Come and enjoy yourself with the sublime company of others.

The basics

So youd like to go on a deserted island with a bunch of people who know what the cellar is for. The island is 80 acres, and the 11 bedroomed house is 65 squares. The island itself has two jetties, fishing spots, two floodlit tennis courts, a swimming pool, a nine hole golf course, outdoor BBQ area, children's playground, large games room (with table tennis table). Golf clubs, tennis raquets, badminton equipment, table tennis and quoits are available. A small security deposit is required for the use of sporting equipment.

The use of the house includes all linen, house towels, and bedding. Bring your own beach or pool towels. A fully catered for kitchen with motorised spit roast, dishwasher, microwave, and ice-making machine, large freezer and fridge. Electricity is supplied by a generator. It will operate for 2 hours over breakfast, 2 hours over lunch and starts again around 5:30 PM. There is battery lighting available after the generator is turned off. These hours are negotiable. There is a VCR, TV, and a stereo system available. There is also a stereo near the gazebo bar near the pool. So bring your favourite music and videos if you think they will be necessary. The island launch is available in daylight hours at a cost of $200/day. Please remember that you will be responsible for your own enjoyment of the weekend. Please bring your favourite games

Money, Money!!!

It is hoped that any monies not spent will be distributed back to the people at the island. Amanda (Bridie) and Christine (Alarice) have opened a joint account with the Bank of Melbourne and we will keep the money in that. At any time, and with due notice people may ask to see the accounts. We will be as accountable as is possible. You can see Christine or Amanda or send cheques etc to Amanda Chalkley 11 Huon Grv Ashburton VIC 3147 (ph 9885 6048)

What do I bring?

  • Beach and/or pool towels.
  • eating and drinking utensils
  • Favourite music, videos, books, games.
  • BYO alcohol in plastic or cans rather than glass please.
  • NO PETS, FIREARMS, OR MOTORISED VEHICLES.
  • The usual stuff youd want for a weekend away from the madding crowd.
  • Medications and other essentials.
  • A TORCH
  • A relaxed attitude.
  • This time it's a trip in the middle of winter, so whilst the open fireplace is going to be wonderful, make sure you've got some decent wet-weather gear and a change of warm clothes. It's also going to get dark a early at this time of year, so I'd strongly recommend bringing your own torch.

How the heck do I get there?

  • Take the Princes Highway to Lakes Entrance (Melways map 529 C5)
  • Take the first left after crossing the bridge into Lakes Entrance
  • You should now be on the road for the North Arm Jetty, along the waterside
  • The garage you want is on the right, and you can leave your car there safely all weekend.

    FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!

Please bring your own eating and drinking utensils. To cater for the food we would appreciate it if people could send me a list of things that they will not eat, things that they love to eat and things that they are allergic to. Please let us know what type of breads you eat, what type of spreads you like, what type of salads and cold meats, and what type of meats you like. We are going to cater for the food because it is MUCH cheaper, and we will get much better food. This wont be too much work if people co-operate. Each person will need to help with the preparation of one meal for the weekend. The earlier you volunteer for a shift, the more likely you are to get that shift.

NOTE: The following is from the first trip, but should give you an idea of what we'll be eating next time As the weekend finished, we realised we were simply overwhelmed with the amount of food left over...NO-ONE went home hungry!!

The menu that was decided on is simple and should be tasty.... (please if there is any dietary requirements.. please contact Alarice/ Christine, Amanda/ Bridie or Aaron.. we will have vegetarian food available... marinated tofu and the like... but for that sort of food we will need numbers for the catering.)
